Snooper My-Track SPT200
The Snooper My-Track SPT200 was recently awarded 5 stars and best for adaptability in the August 2nd 2009 test in The Sunday Time’s Ingear supplement.
The Snooper My-Track SPT200 works by using a mobile phone’s SIM card to send text messages with a link to a web address, which you could access through your computer or mobile smart phone. This web address shows the tracker’s location on a map. You can set the Snooper My-Track SPT200 to automatically send text messages at a delay so you can continually track the progress of the gps tracker or you can choose to only recieve text messages when you want them. The second method requires you to phone the Snooper from your mobile phone which will then make the Snooper My-Track SPT200 send you a text message with the location (longitude and latitude), battery life remaining, the time and a link to an online map for you to be able to view. Unlike with some GPS devices, the Snooper is accurate to 2.5 meters which is fantastic!
Snooper My-Track SPT200 has two other modes of opertation which include SOS and the safety zone mode. SOS mode could be really useful if you’re out hiking, or walking home through a bad area at night. The SOS mode works like a panic alarm. It doesn’t create a loud siren, but it sends a text message saying “HELP!” along with details of your location to up to 4 mobile phones (which you can set). Once one of the 4 people receives your help message, they can use the information to come find you – or send help to get you.
The safety mode zone could be great for protecting children. It allows you to set an area, of no less than 20 meters and no more than 5000 meters in which if the tracker exits, it will send a message with the tracker’s position. Once activated you will be able to continue to track the tracker. This could be a good use to check your children get home from school safely if you are at work, or unable to be there with them.
Snooper My-Track SPT200 contains a rechargeable battery which will last for 3 days. The Snooper is a really good way to protect your vehicle and it can be hard wired into you car, boat or caravan for just £49.99.
At only 7cm long, 4.5cm across and 2.5cm thick, the Snooper My-Track SPT200 is nice and compact. It could easily be put in a pocket, or hidden in a car. It comes with a strap so you can easily attach it to pets or valued personal items.
The reason I think Snooper is great is that not only is it affordable to buy, but you do not need to pay high monthly subscription fees to monitor the tracker. The Snooper comes with an Orange SIM card (though you could change this to another company). Each text message will only cost you about 10p, so it doesn’t work out that much to use.
